The Gallery at Flashpoint

That's that !

THE  H O [U S E] - H O [M E] group show of 9 contemporary artists opened at the Flashpoint Gallery April 3rd, 2004.  By welcoming into the adopted home/gallery our  guests and visiting public, it gave everyone the chance to see for themselves what our château was like. It was definitely better than the "Welcome Wagon" coming to our door, no doubt about it.  Instead, our Washington, DC neighbors came carrying more than just Tupperware and a fruit basket, but plenty of warm hearts and best wishes for the future .

It felt good to come back home, "closure""la boucle est bouclée" in French. Indeed a shelter of sorts, a strong camaraderie felt between the HouseHome artists, the curators, Xavier and myself  and its visitors
- just like family.  Pleased and proud to see the final result at Flashpoint from its early beginnings in Brookland, and the series of  9 artist's interventions began in September of 2003.  Home is where the heart is (at) or where Papa lays (his) hat by the late great Temptations. Our House is certainly different from yours, but what counts is what's inside.

after
all is said and done, the artworks made for HouseHome will linger on forever embedded in the memory of the artists who produced them, the visitors who experienced them and the resulting  rich and personal dialogue that ensued and still persists.

Our goal is to make you the viewer feel at home through the experiences of our invited guest artists. The dialogue that will ensue is inextricably tied to and/or substantially departing from the routines and traditions established within the private house
- yours or mine - and is in part a response to the culture, history and notions of the modern home today and its occupants.
